Events and VE Sessions

Florida Parishes VE Group - Testing sessions are scheduled for the last Sunday of each month [with the exception of holiday conflicts] at AmVets Post #68; 26890 Hwy 42 (jct. of Hwys 42 and 43) - Springfield, La. 70462 (approximately 3 miles south of I-12 at exit 32) at 2pm with $15 testing fee. Health and Welfare:

  • K5CNU James Romero went into the hospital a few days back. He was on a ventilator and in a coma but was awake yesterday with meds and vent being lowered with his body regulating itself.

ARES report: Pat Mason (KE5KMM)

  • Average around 27 but about ½ last night with all off on vacation.
  • New hams are checking in regularly.

Hamfest Committee: Tyrone Burns (N5XES)

  • Ponchatoula Community Center
    • Start kicking off activities in June
    • Motion for $3K for prizes Tyrone

    • We should look at discounts with ICOM.

Repeater Committee: Tyrone Burns (N5XES) & Russ Plyler (WI5ARD)

  • Tickfaw
    • Waiting to see when the grounding is down at the tower.
    • Next Steps
      • Insulation is on location and needs to be installed on the ceiling.
      • Wall outlets have exposed wiring and burnt plugs that need to be corrected.
      • Power distribution in the cabinet.
      • End of July for 110 power within the building.
  • Hammond
    • Tyrone programmed the 6 meter repeater of Pete’s. Waiting to see when to install.
    • Marker ball fell off the site.

Old Business:

  • Waiting on Ed to bring the TNC back. :) Can someone drive by Amite and pick it up. Tyrone received the TNC and Alinco radio for the Ponchatoula site.

Field Day: Mark Lacey (WX5RN)

  • Date: June 24th and 25th, 2023
  • Lynnette was contacted with the community center and will check to make sure there are no conflicts.
  • WB5NET vs. WM5T
  • Spent 2-Days last week working on antennas with Mike.
    • 1 VHF antenna was replaced with VHF/UHF mag mount
    • 1 UHF antenna was replaced with VHF/UHF mag mount
    • The bent MFJ antenna was replaced with the donated Comet Antenna CHA-250B
    • The dipole type antenna was taken down and a MFJ End Fed dipole was installed.
    • The isopole has better coax connected to it.
    • Confirmed and tested the cable for the Ringo Ranger on the tower.

Training
